SWAP RC meeting 3-19-07 Greg Gee called meeting to order at 7:30 pm. Meeting had a good turnout with 26 members and 1 visitor signing in that joined at the end of the meeting. Minutes of the last meeting were presented by Dale, voted on and accepted. Financial report presented by Rodney with a total of $7,188.82 in the treasury at this time. Report was voted on and accepted. OLD BUSINESS Art brought up about maybe sending a second mailing to members as a reminder to pay their dues. All thought it would be a good idea; Art will mail them again to member’s delinquent. Art also presented a proposal for the club sign to go on the building. It has our logo and club name on it. It was voted on to go with it in a colorfast vinyl mounted on a backer board and covered with Lexan. The cost to digitize the Logo and name will be $275 and then $211 to make the sign plus tax, plus a bit for the Lexan which should bring the bottom line to under $500. We will get the file incase we need another sign or need to replace this one down the road it won’t cost us so much. It was also brought up and voted on to mount the AMA safety rules and frequency chart under Lexan at the same time. Charlie brought in a stainless steel box for the first aid kit. It has a place for a lock and a gasket to make it weather resistant. It will be mounted to the building and the lock will have the same combo as the gate so everyone will have access to it. Rob will be contacted about getting the first aid kit put together. The “Duck Pond” was mentioned by Neil. It seems to be getting bigger, almost reaching the runway. It was discussed to a great extent what should be done to correct it. It needs to be filled in but it needs to be done correctly by filling a little and tamping until it is level with the ground and to make sure there is proper runoff. Rodney will look into getting some equipment to fill in this sink hole and make it level. Art brought up a list of SWAP members who are delinquent in AMA membership renewal as of 1-12-07. This is a reminder to make sure you are in good standing with AMA so that you can fly at the field. Without membership in the AMA you will not be allowed to fly at the club field, NO exceptions. Tickets for the raffle plane at the September fly-in were printed incorrectly, and have to be reprinted. The printer put the same number on every ticket; they will take care of the reprint and they should be available soon. Greg notified all that the first fun fly of the year will be held on April 22, 2007. This will not be a highly competitive event just a fun fly with some burgers and such and a chance for all to fly and get back into the swing of it and have FUN. Anyone that can help should contact Greg as it will be greatly appreciated. NEW BUSINESS Rodney brought up that it is getting time to start cutting grass and Terraverdi has said that due to fuel cost our price will have to be raised. Rodney will get a firm price from them and also a couple other bids and we will see about making a good deal. Terraverdi has done a great job and hopefully they will not have to be replaced. SHOW AND TELL Mike Crum talked about his trip to Alabama. He had a great time and excellent experience with his two 90 sized helis’ being able to fly Friday, Saturday and Sunday with almost perfect weather (a lot better than here). He had a lot of fun and looks forward to going to Muncie, Indiana to the AMA field to compete on Aug 15-17. Art brought up that a member of CBRC came across a C17 Globe master with a wing span greater that 20’ and the top of the plane standing 74” above the ground. It is powered by 4 big turbine engines and weighs approx 250 pounds. He also brought up that flyers should watch and listen to what their plane is telling them. He had an incident when he took his plane off he had to adjust a lot of aileron trim into it to fly correctly. Later he noticed it did not roll as fast as it always had. Then on a fly by he heard a flutter noise followed by an aileron breaking loose. It was initially held only by the control arm/linkage and then it completely came off. There were three events he said should have alerted him to the breakage but he really did not pay much attention to them. He managed to land the plane safely, and retrieve the aileron. He found that two of the four CA hinges broke and the other two just pulled out from the strain. He considered himself lucky. As a safety factor listen to what your plane tells you as it is possible to lose control and someone could get injured. Art also showed off his fine SIG Four Star 120 size KIT he is building (a Christmas present to himself). He stated that he had a lot of fun building it and made some mods as he is putting a 150 size engine on it. He is going with a sun burst pattern and using the Robart style hinges. It really looks good and should have it flying this summer. NO more CA hinges. Greg mentioned a swap meet being held in Mechanicsville Va. on May 12th. This is the Richmond swap meet. Greg also showed off the pride and joy he is working on, the Great Planes P-6E Hawk. It is powered by an OS 120 four stroke and has a custom working scale exhaust. This is a beautiful model and Greg has a right to be proud. He spent a lot of time reading reviews and suggestions on RC Universe and came up with some mods that strengthen the plane to hopefully make it last. If anyone is looking into building one of these models see Greg for some helpful tips. This also should fly very soon. Meeting raffle was held for a gift certificate to Hobby Town which was won by Bob Pollokoff. Meeting adjourned at 8:15 PM 1
