SWAP RC meeting 4-16-07 Greg Gee called the meeting to order at 7:30pm. He thanked everyone for coming to the meeting. 24 people attended the meeting. Dale read the minutes of the last meeting; they were corrected from CBRC to, voted on to DCRC in the show and tell by Art, and then accepted. Rodney presented the financial report. We have $7,418.83 left in the treasury. The report was voted on and accepted. OLD BUSINESS Rob brought the first aid kit he promised and well stocked with gauze, bandages, tape gloves etc. There was a discussion on how to keep the stock up in the kit and Rob volunteered to check the contents frequently and make sure it is stocked. Thank you Rob! Rodney talked about the runway. He met with an asphalt expert and he reported the runway looked in good shape. He gave us five gallons of sealer to use where the two runs of asphalt were joined, and said he would strip and paint larger “X’s” at each end of the runway and would not charge us. It was discussed that the club do something for him after he finishes. This will be discussed later. Rodney had mentioned in the financial report he paid for two loads of top soil to us to use to fill in the “duck pond”. Josh talked about getting the machinery and doing it correctly, tamping and filling. It was discussed that this weekend will probably not be a good time to do work on it due to the rain and wet conditions. It was also discussed about dressing up the edge of the runway on the far side with some of the dirt. It was decided it should be rolled instead of using dirt. Doc also brought up that there is a lot of dirt from a construction site near his house that could be moved up to the field and used to fill the duck pond area as it will take more than two loads. Josh stated we need good clean top soil or the rocks and trash would work its way to the top in time and would be hard to get rid of. The best thing to do would be buy more loads of top soil. When things dry out we will work on getting the area filled and we will check out Doc’s dirt and see what’s best. Greg reminded everyone that raffle tickets were sent out and to get them back to Art along with the money as soon as possible. Terraverde will continue cutting the grass, one other firm was higher and one did not respond. The fun fly on Sunday is not to be a high stress affair, it will be a time to socialize and have fun. Burgers and dogs will be available. Greg will get there about 10AM and anyone who can help should be there to help set up the food, chop onions etc. We will need help at the grill. Art has the key to the shed and will bring up our supplies during the week and save time on Sunday morning. Come up and fly and/or have fun socializing with other members. Someone will be needed to make a food shopping trip and get a few things. NEW BUSINESS Rodney talked about the safety table and described how he built it in about three hours. He bought the material and did a great job. The plans were from the web site for the meroke club. We discussed plans to build about ten tables and secure them in place at the field. Mike Crum has wood and we’ll see if we can use that and build the 10 for the club. Art said he would donate $75 to build one and anyone could use it when he is not there, but when he shows up that he would like it for him to use. Doc brought up about maybe getting some people trained in CPR so it can be done safely if needed. Rob will check with a friend of his at the fire house. He is pretty sure he will give a class to anyone interested in learning. Rob may also be able to give a basic first aid class at the same time. Everyone at the meeting said they were interested and the wheels have been set in motion to find a location to do it. The Elkridge fire house may possibly be used. No certification will be given just training as the certification will cost a bit of money. Doug reminded everyone that the next meeting will be at the flying field at 6:30 PM on the third Monday of May. Ron had a question about how often the newsletters go out before a meeting, as he has not received anything for about 6 months. The newsletters, raffle tickets were sent regularly and he may be having a problem with his postal service. It was also brought up by Ron that our frequency board should have an area for our AMA cards for the people flying the spectrum radios so we can be sure they are AMA affiliated and a member of our club. A new frequency board is in the works and will have an area for the people flying spectrum (2.4 GHz) radios. Everyone flying is required to put their AMA card on the board. Ron also brought up a safety factor with gas powered engines with electronic ignitions. Be very careful when turning on the ignition. If the cylinder is at the top of the stroke when you turn the ignition on it produces spark and any residual gas/fumes in the cylinder will ignite and spin the engine. Propellers have been known to fly off or the engine start and may rip into you. Be very careful that the cylinder is not under compression when turning the ignition on and that all body parts are not near or in line with the prop. Wayne brought up again about what is going to be done about a people that continually crash in the pit area. He said he seen a couple of times and heard other people telling of this happening. The board will discuss penalties and whether to eject someone from the club if people notice it happening more than once given the perpetrators’ will not listen and continue to be careless. Art brought the new sign in to show all. He stated it was a little more than what was discussed due to tax but still within reason. Sign looks good and will make wonderful tail feathers for Mutant planes :) Art also stated that he has registered the September fun fly with the AMA, it will be put in MA three times. Bruce Hanson will be listed as the CD. He also stated there will a ten dollar landing fee for other than club members. He also thanked the people that helped him stuff the envelopes for the raffle tickets and newsletters, Art, Dave, Greg and Dale. SHOW AND TELL Ed Showed off his very nice EFlight Funtana and told us about it, he said there were a few little thing that could be improved but over all he likes it. Look for it at the field. Wayne also showed a new heli that Zach has learned to fly very well doing 3D now, it’s a T Rex 450. He said it is not for the new guy and also told us about his trip to Florida and stopping at a flying field before anything else. That’s dedication. Demitre showed a very fine scratch built plane. He built a fuselage and then tried to find an airfoil and wing size that would work for a 400 size electric. He built a fiberglass cowl and put a 480 motor in it. He still has a little work to do on it but should have it ready next week. Ron mentioned that the Toledo show had a real poor turnout this year and has been dwindling over the last few years. The people that were there bought mainly foamies and there were very few manufacturers who brought kits, mostly ARF’s. Toledo may become a thing of the past if things don’t improve. Raffle was held and door prize was won by Ralph, 50/50 was won by Bryan. Meeting was adjourned at 8:42 PM. - 1 -
