SWAP RC meeting 5-21-07 Greg Gee called the meeting to order at 6:30pm, at the flying field. He thanked everyone for coming to the meeting. 16 people attended the first meeting of the year at the field. Dale read the minutes of the last meeting; they were voted on and accepted. Rodney presented the financial report. We have $6.712.94 left in the treasury after writing checks for the sign, mailings, grass cutting and portable potty. The report was voted on and accepted. OLD BUSINESS The fun fly was held May 20th and came off very well. The club made about $275.00 on the food and T-shirts and hats (paid for last year). Pictures of the fun fly are on the web site so you might want to take a look Rodney got more dirt at north end of field, filling the duck pond may have to wait to fall so the grass will grow and not kill the present grass. It was also brought up that it would interfere with flying during the summer. Neil was acknowledged and thanks and kudos to him for weed whacking the edges of the runway. Raffle tickets need to be turned in as soon as you can, turn into Art or at Hobbytown. Greg said he would take them tonight if anyone has them. Mike Crum has a new frequency board and was supposed to be installed yesterday but Mike was sick and could not bring it. A new location was discussed for the new sign so as not to block the view of the flying area. When the size of the board is found out we will discuss it with all who come to install it. A work party was held to make the safety tables, thanks to all who built them and to Mike for supplying the wood. A picture of the work force is on the web page. NEW BUSINESS President put on his safety hat, and stressed that more communication is needed when on the line flying. When taking off, landing, out of control or on the runway to let everyone on the line know (yell it out). Need to be safe at all times. Jason, out of his good will, printed up membership cards for everyone. They are not to be placed on the frequency board as that must be your AMA card. These are to show at Hobbytown so you can get your discount and such things. Thanks Jason. Rodney brought up a thought from Art Vail. Art has a festival in his community each year and pays about $2000 to $2500 for policing the area and getting trash out of street etc. If we have enough people to do this in shifts of 2 hours or so we might be able to volunteer and make some money for the club. We have a year to think about it but might be a good way to get some money in the treasury. Maybe getting some decals with the club logo was brought up. Greg said he had some made up a couple years ago and thought it would be nice to have them. He will look into getting some made with different sizes. It was brought up about maybe getting a crossing runway at the field, even though that would be nice it is also impossible and use of the grass is probably best. The cross winds will let you land planes toward you, but not from the pit side. Cross winds will make you a better flyer anyway. Next funfly is June 24th, would like volunteers to set up events and run them. No volunteers were noticed. Help is really needed as these are one of the few programs that bring money into the club. SHOW AND TELL Electric Mike showed his new plane, which he thinks will be the future of electric air craft. It is an import from Australia and is loaded with carbon fiber through out. He bought the plane from Atlanta hobby. The carbon fiber is fused with the balsa and ply and makes a very strong plane. Mike says it flies like a dream. The gift card raffle was held and was won by Stan Stinchcomb. Meeting was adjourned at 7:20 PM. - 2 -
